Teacher Self-Care 101

From the outside looking in, it can be easy to assume that teachers have a very rewarding and easy going job. As many looking from the outside are so unfamiliar with the actual struggles that teachers go through, of course this would be the easiest assumption to make. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be anything further from the truth. While rewarding, teaching is also one of the most stressful jobs on the planet. This is largely related to the fact that every job responsibility will fall to just an individual, as a teacher can’t look to other faculty members to develop their lesson plans or keep their children culled for an entire school year. With that said, many schools have begun finding ways to get more teachers and their students involved with one another. This collaboration, while seemingly overwhelming in nature as a result of large sums of students being grouped together, actually provides teachers with some respite from the loneliness they may feel in the day to day. Through shared resources and ideas, teachers can reduce the individual workload while still improving the quality of instruction and providing a fun experience for children. Similarly, through connections with fellow educators, teachers can also find and establish friendships that can help strike a healthier work-life balance.
